McHenry, ILWhy McHenry Pet Owners Call Us First
McHenry is the county seat of McHenry County and the heart of the Fox River Valley. The city's motto is "The Heart of the Fox River," and that geography defines a lot of what we see in pet odor calls here. McHenry is about 18 minutes north of our Algonquin headquarters via IL-31 along the river, and we run the corridor several times a week.
McHenry's housing splits cleanly into two sides for our work. The older Fox River-adjacent neighborhoods — McHenry Shores, Pistakee, Riverstream, Sunnyside, Holcombville Corners — have homes from the 1920s through the 1960s, some originally built as summer cottages and converted to year-round living. Many of those homes have crawl spaces under the living areas, fieldstone basements that get damp in spring, and original carpet pad that's absorbed decades of pet history. Humidity from the river reactivates the smell every July.
The newer side of McHenry — Legend Lakes, Liberty Trails, Boone Creek, Oaks at Irish Prairie — is 1990s-2000s subdivision construction with the standard synthetic-carpet-over-plywood profile. Finished basements are common and that's where dogs have winter accidents. Concrete subfloor under the basement carpet holds uric acid for years.
Either pattern, our process is the same: UV inspection, severity assessment, deep treatment of the affected layer (pad, plywood, concrete, or pine), dwell, sub-surface extraction, guarantee. Lakeland Animal Hospital has been in McHenry since 1971 and refers customers to us regularly.
